Teacher Kitchy’s voice care tips

June 18, 2008 1:43 PM

The morning session with Teacher Kitchy was packed with tips on caring for th scholars' voices. It was necessary for the scholars as future pro singers to monitor their vocal hygiene.

Some of Teacher Kitchy's do’s as a singer was to drink tons of water to keep their throats hydrated. Another crucial advice from the mentor was to get adequate vocal rest, staying in tip-top shape and taking vitamins. Also as soon as the scholars get up in the morning, they must warm-up their voices. Correct posture is very important too so they will be able to sing loud and clear.

Teacher Kitchy's advice to having a dry mouth was to chew candy. If sinusitis occurs, saline water is the best cure for it. For the gala night, Teacher Kitchy strictly told the scholars to avoid excessive talking and screaming at all cost in order to produce an optimum performance.

As for the Don’ts of the trade, drinking alcohol and smoking is a definite no-no. Alcohol is a diuretic which would dehydrate them. Also, a don’t is whispering and whistling since it scratches the throat. Another don’t that caused various reactions from the scholars was to flush it down phlem with water instead of spitting it out.

After the long list, the scholars vocalized with Teacher Kitchy. Each had the chance to practice their number, with the Voice Mentor correcting them. All were constantly advised to relax their muscles to deliver their song with pizzaz. With all these constant coaching, will the scholars be able to maximize their talent and perform their piece with flair? Keep posted on the latest developments in the Academy with Billy Crawford on Uberture!
