Diction Classes with Teacher Von

July 03, 2008 1:09 PM

Most of the scholars had problems in pronunciation which affects the delivery of their songs. To help the scholars properly enunciate, Teacher Von was called back into the Academy to hold a diction class this morning.

Each scholar had to introduce themselves first to help the mentor gauge their skills. A brief lecture on the difference of the English and Tagalog pronunciations followed after.

Apart from this, Teacher Von demonstrated the correct way of saying each short vowel sound. The jaw should drop in saying “A”, and a smile should take place as they utter “E”.

To further distinguish the vowels, the scholars had to write five words to say out loud and then sing afterwards.

For the class proper, everyone had the chance to sing their pieces to the mentor. The teacher observed that Bunny had a nice voice but the words couldn’t be understood very well. Apple on the other hand had a “lazy mouth” which affects her singing.

Bugoy and Jet had “S” and “Th” deficiencies respectively and had to be careful in articulating such. Sheng on the other hand should shy away from the original version of the song since she slurred her words and made use of slang as the foreign artist did. Christian had almost perfect diction. Bea had problems in pronouncing Tagalog words. Laarni could have a bit of a problem with her song because of its fast tempo.

With the Diction Mentor policing their speech, would correct pronunciation be second nature for the scholars? Catch this Diction Class plus the latest updates on the scholars later on Uberture!
